    So Dear to My Heart Concept Art by Mary Blair (1948). A magnificent Mary Blair (1911 - 1978) original concept painting from Walt Disney's feature film, So Dear to My Heart. Like 1946's Song of the South, it combines animation and live action. The painting offered in this lot depicts an Indiana street in the early 1900s. Blair's use of a fall color palette in this piece is gorgeous! Marc Davis, one of "Walt's Nine Old Men" said of her, "She was the most amazing colorist of all time. I don't think even Matisse could hold a candle to her..." In 1991 Blair was posthumously inducted into Disney's hall of fame program as an official Disney Legend, one of the first women to be given the honor. She also has the distinction of having her name appear in a window on Main Street in Disneyland. An honor bestowed upon only a few who help create the magic. In 2014, The Walt Disney Family Museum hosted the comprehensive exhibition: Magic, Color, Flair: The World of Mary Blair. Although Mary Blair is known for her fantastic colors, she often said her favorite color was white: the color of possibility. This brilliant painting was rendered in gouache on 12" x 10" board. Edge wear with pinholes in the corners from production use. Overall condition is Very Good.
