    Description

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Dopey Courvoisier Production Cel with Master Production Background (Walt Disney, 1937). Doc says, "Get the soap!" to Dopey who eagerly obliges. In this lot is a rare image from Scene 6A Sequence 26 in Walt Disney's masterpiece, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This is a fantastic hand-inked, hand-painted Courvoisier production cel featuring Dopey with the soap. The cel is trimmed to image and applied to a Master production background. In 1938 art dealer, Guthrie Courvoisier was looking for something fresh and obtainable he could represent in his San Francisco art gallery. Being of the same mind, Walt Disney gave Guthrie exclusive rights to market their original animation cels. The artwork measures 11.25" x 9.5" with Dopey standing 4.25" tall. This is a superb piece of Courvoisier artwork and would be a wonderful addition to any animation art collection. Courvoisier art is a "must have" for any discerning collector. Normal handling and edge wear. Very Good condition. From the MacLaughlin Family Disney Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
