    Description

Sleeping Beauty Maleficent Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1959). Sleeping Beauty was the 16th animated feature film from Walt Disney Pictures. It was also the last animated feature from Disney to be hand-inked before the xerographic process took over. It is was the first animated feature to be shot in Super Technirama 70, one of many large-format widescreen processes. Sleeping Beauty spent nearly the entire decade of the 1950s in production: the story work began in 1951, voices were recorded in 1952, animation production took from 1953 until 1958, the stereophonic musical score was recorded in 1957 and the film was released on 1/29/59 -- making Sleeping Beauty was a laborious process to say the least. Disney artist Eyvind Earle was the film's production designer, and Walt gave him a significant amount of freedom in designing the settings and selecting colors for the film. From this masterpiece of film making we have a stellar image of Maleficent along with a fire effects drawing. Maleficent stands 7.5" tall. Both pieces were rendered in graphite, with colored pencil on the fire effects drawing, on 16 field, 3-peghole animation paper. Both drawings are framed side-by-side in a frame measuring 37" x 18.75". Frame is sold as-is. This is a fantastic drawing of one of Disney's most popular villains, Maleficent, full-figure in her classic "bad-girl" pose! This is a great acquisition opportunity for any discerning collector of Disney Villains. The artwork is in Very Good condition. From the MacLaughlin Family Disney Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
