Description

She Wronged Him Right Betty Boop "Tanktown Theater" Background Painting Original Art (Fleischer Studios, 1934). "This play is presented for your complete relaxation - if you feel like hissing the villain go to it - it's OK with us. The Management." Actress Betty is about to perform in an old-fashioned play (with "Heeza Ratt" as the hissable villain) as this cartoon opens. Following the word from the management, our first image is of this rare snow-covered "Tanktown Theater" production background painting with Betty Boop listed as "heroine" in the sign. This short was released on 1/5/1934, directed by Dave Fleisher and Roland Crandall, with animation by Crandall and Thomas Johnson; unfortunately, we do not know the "scenic" artist's name. Fleischer Studios background artists included Eddi Bowds, Hemia Calpini, Robert Connavale, Robert Little, Anton Loeb, Shane Miller, Gustaf Tenggren, and our choice artistic candidate, Erich Schenk. The painting is in gray and sepia gouache on 12 field 3-peghole lightweight board with an image area measuring approximately 9.75" x 8.5". The addition of Betty Boop's name on this piece makes it a real find! The art is in Very Good condition with minor handling and edge wear, plus mild age-related toning in the outer borders.
