    Description

Self-Control Donald Duck Animation Drawings Sequence of 4 (Walt Disney, 1938). What's the best way to shoo away a troublesome woodpecker? Why, a double-barrel shotgun of course! Donald looks forward to a leisurely afternoon spent relaxing in his hammock - and listening to the self-styled "musical philosopher" Uncle Smiley on the radio. But all the musical philosophy in the world is no match for Donald's famous short fuse. His backyard inhabitants (a caterpillar, a hen, and a woodpecker) prove too much for his fragile nerves - and Donald reacts in typical fashion. This Technicolor short was released on February 11, 1938, and was directed by Jack King. Jack Hannah contributed animation and "Duck Man" Carl Barks was in charge of Story. "And now, friends, we bring our little program to a close by singing 'Laugh and Count to Ten'..." This Donald animation drawing depicts him perfectly "in character", seething with rage, and only seconds away from having a meltdown for the ages! A backyard woodpecker (Donald's most formidable opponent of the day), has just returned Donald's cap - albeit, looking a little worse for wear. Realizing he's lost, Donald then quickly proceeds to smash his radio to smithereens with the butt of his shotgun. Donald measures roughly 5" x 4.5", and is rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field, 5-peghole animation paper. Half-buried in a hole in the dirt, he is seen from the waist up in these excellent, large depictions; he scowls and drums his fingers impatiently, as his anger boils over. Toning, creasing, and edge wear evident throughout the four drawings. In Fair to Good condition.
