    Description

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You Mystery Machine Early Color Model Cel (Hanna-Barbera, 1969). Hanna-Barbera Studios has produced some very important animated vehicles. Some of their most famous include Fred Flintstone's Car, George Jetson's Spacecar, the Banana Splits Buggy, even Speed Buggy himself. The single most memorable vehicle in the Hanna-Barbera library of vehicles has to be the Mystery Machine. Here is one of the very earliest hand-painted cels of the Mystery Machine we have ever seen (could well be the very first), and it's a doozy.
Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! premiered on CBS on 9/13/69. It featured the "talking" dog named Scooby-Doo along with "Mystery, Inc." members Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy. Their main mode of transportation was this 1960s era panel van called "The Mystery Machine." The van's previous owner was a rock band known as "The Mystery Kids." The van's distinctive design was said to be painted by one Flash Flannigan, the band's former pianist. The Mystery Machine was a blend of blue and green and had two orange flowers on each side. The owner and driver most of the time was Fred, but Shaggy drove it as well.
This rare Ink and Paint Department Color Model cel of the Mystery Machine is dated 4/15/69, five months before this show's first episode (on September 13). It is stamped "Hanna-Barbera Productions 1969" and is labeled "Mystery Machine 'Scooby Doo' Series." It is also marked Prod. #45, this show's production number. Great hand-painted image, with a size of 7" on a 12 field cel. This comes directly from the personal collection of a longtime executive at Hanna-Barbera Studios. Also with this historic piece is a studio photo of a real Mystery Machine van used for promotional purposes, parked in front of the old Hanna-Barbera studio.
Cel is slightly stuck to a backing board, but all paint is complete and intact. This is a never before seen piece of H-B history! Good condition.
