Scooby-Doo, Where Are You Full Cast Production Cel Setup on Pan Production Background Signed by Mike Maltese (Hanna-Barbera, 1969). "And I'd have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for those meddling kids!" Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! premiered in July of 1969 and has proven one of Hanna-Barbera Studio's most successful and enduring cartoon series. Subsequent to the original series, Hanna-Barbera and later Warner Brothers produced numerous spin-offs as well as several related works, including television specials, a line of direct-to-video movies, and two theatrical features. Presented in this lot is easily the single largest and most impressive Scooby-Doo production setup we have ever offered. It is an original hand-painted pan 4-cel setup of the entire cast from the opening sequence of the show's first season. All the characters are there in full-figure with Fred, Shaggy, and Scooby on individual cels measuring 37.5" x 10.5" while Daphne and Velma share a single cel of 50" x 10.5". The character images measure in a range of approximately 3" to 5" tall. Each cel is marked 45 STK 583 and the setup is over an original hand-painted pan production background that measures a staggering 62" x 10.25". The gouache background is from season 1 episode 4 titled "Mine Your Own Business" and can be seen at the 4:50 mark as the gang takes the Mystery Machine through the old ghost town of Gold City. This remarkable one-of-a-kind production setup is dedicated and signed in the lower right corner of the background by legendary Warner Brothers and Hanna-Barbera writer Michael Maltese (1908 - 1981). Both cels and background show minor handling and edge wear. Condition is Very Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
