Science Ninja Team Gatchaman Ken The Eagle Production Cel with Painted Background (Tatsunoko Productions, c. 1972-74). Ken the Eagle strikes a fantastic and menacing pose in this hand-inked and hand-painted original production cel from the influential Science Ninja Team Gatchman, known by many in the US as Battle of the Planets. The leader of the titular Science Ninja Team, Ken Washio, was designed by the great visual artist and character designer Yoshitaka Amano, well known for the trademark piercing eyes of his characters. This is an exemplary image from the groundbreaking series that established the popular convention of the five-member hero team, bringing about the successful Super Sentai franchise. The genre would be exemplified again by the English series adaptation of the Power Rangers franchise many years later. This cel is presented on a painted background rendered in gouache. It shows trimming, and it is taped to the background on all edges. The cel otherwise shows minor handling with some wrinkling throughout. A rare find featuring a great pose of the main character, the condition overall is Good.
