Description

Sandy Claws Production Background by Irv Wyner (Warner Brothers, 1955). Sandy Claws was the only Tweety and Sylvester short to be nominated for an Academy Award. Here is a stunning original, hand-painted production background from this theatrical short, depicting Tweety's birdcage perched atop a rock by the seashore. If you look closely, you can just see the top of Tweety's head in it. This image can be seen at about the 0:42 mark of the short, as Granny leaves Tweety to change into her swim suit. The painting is created with gouache, graphite, and airbrush on 12 field 2-peghole background board. It is the work of Irv Wyner, a legendary Warner Brothers background artist who made background paintings for some of the studio's most popular cartoons. His first credit at the studio was the 1952 short Gift Wrapped, which was also a Sylvester and Tweety cartoon. This great one-of-a-kind painting is signed by the artist in its lower right corner. A remarkable piece from a wonderful Sylvester and Tweety classic. It exhibits minor handling pinholes. Condition is Very Good.
