    Description

Samuel Armstrong - Editorial Cartoon Original Art (Walt Disney, c. 1920s/30s). Samuel Armstrong (1893 - 1976) is known to Disney fans for his great background paintings on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as well as his work on such films as Fantasia, Dumbo and Bambi. In later years he was a regular artist for Disney Little Golden Books and other Whitman/Western Publishing work. He studied art at the Philadelphia School of Industrial Art as well as Rochester New York Mechanics Art Institute. He became the Art Editor for the Tacoma News Tribune and later illustrator and cover artist for Sunset Living in the West Magazine. This magazine began in 1898 and was initially a promotional tool for the Southern Pacific Railroad. This is an outstanding Editorial Cartoon by Sam Armstrong from his pre-Disney days, most likely in the early 1930s. Huge pen and ink commentary on border hostilities between Mexico and the United States (seems like this conversation is not just a current one). Art is in ink on lightweight illustration board measuring 26.5" x 19.5". Artwork is hand-signed Sam Armstrong in the bottom right border. Minor handling, surface wear, and edge wear. Good condition.
