DescriptionReturn of the King Gollum and Frodo Production Cel Setup and Master Production Background (Rankin/Bass, 1980). Rankin/Bass Studio produced two of J. R. R. Tolkien's books, The Hobbit and a sequel Return of the King: A Story of the Hobbits. Offered here is an original hand-painted production cel setup of Gollum and Frodo from the latter production. In it Gollum has discovered that Frodo possesses the ring. It's a remarkable image with character images of 8" and 4.5" tall on 10 field cels. They are presented over a hand-painted production background to form a one-of-a-kind master setup. Artwork from this animated Tolkien tale is notoriously hard to come by and an image that includes these two rivals and the ring is a prize piece. It is in a 15.5" x 14" frame without glass and the mat opening measures 10" x 8.5". Minor handling and scuffs; otherwise condition is Very Good. Frame is sold as-is.
