DescriptionWoody Woodpecker Shoots the Works Book Art (Walter Lantz, 1974). A terrific illustration used in the book Woody Woodpecker Shoots the Works. The piece was done by Frank McSavage (1903 - 1998) who started working at the Walt Disney Studios in 1936. In the early 1940s, McSavage briefly left Disney, and worked on the advertising and merchandise department of the Walter Lantz Studios. Between late 1945 and December 1949, he was back at Disney as an assistant animator on Donald Duck shorts. Beginning in 1950, he was a regular contributor to the funny animal titles of Western Publishing, starting with the Walter Lantz characters Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy, and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The piece in this lot was rendered in gouache on illustration paper measuring approximately 8.25" x 9.5". The artwork is in a frame of 24.75" x 19" under glass with a mat opening of 8" x 9". Included in the frame is a copy of the book cover and the actual book page. The frame is sold as-is. The artwork has minor handling. Otherwise condition is Very Good. From the MacLaughlin Family Disney Collection.
