War and Pieces Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner Animation Drawing (Warner Brothers, 1964). In Chuck Jones' book Chuck Amuck, he writes about the nine rules of making a Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoon. Rule Six is that the short must take place in the Southwest Desert. This lot breaks that rule with this short. After Wile E. gets on an Acme rocket, it goes up, hits a mountain ledge, loops around, and heads back to Earth -- only to drill through to China! He is met with a Chinese version of the Road Runner, with the same results! This is an outstanding 12 field layout drawing of the Road Runner with the Japanese Road Runner at the film's finale. It ends with "Old Chinese Proverb - The End." Great layout drawing in graphite with red, blue and green pencil highlights. This short was directed by Chuck Jones (1912-2002) and co-directed by Maurice Noble (1911-2001). Both have signed this impressive layout drawing on the bottom. You can see this scene at about the 6:25 mark. This cartoon was released on 6/6/64 and was the last Warner Brothers theatrical cartoon directed by Chuck Jones until the 1980s. Important piece of Cartoon/Chuck Jones history! Matted with an opening of 15" x 12", and framed with Plexiglas, for an overall size of 23" x 20". Frame is sold as-is, drawing has minor handling wear and a paper clip mark in the top border. Very Good condition.
