Description

Walter Lantz - Early Gag Cartoon Original Art (1926). This early movie-making gag drawing by Walter Lantz (1899 - 1996) beats the Three Stooges by a few years with its pie-throwing gag! In 1926 when this drawing was made (there's a small penciled date by his "Walt Lantz" signature), Mr. Lantz was directing and animating the Dinky Doodle cartoon series for Bray Studios; he would set up his own studio a few years later, after a move to California. The art for this piece is in ink and blue pencil on board, with the pasted-on typed caption, "Every thing would have been lovely, if the burglar hadn't ducked when the comedian threw a big custard pie.........." Artboard measures 11.5" x 8" and floated in a mat with an opening of 13" x 10". Framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 18.5" x 15". Minor age toning and edge wear. Very Good condition.
