Description

Walt Disney Studios Joe Magro Caricature Gag Drawing Group (Walt Disney, 1937). Joe Magro was a cleanup/in-between animator who worked in Woolie Reitherman's unit. Upon completion of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, he left the studio with hopes of working in Rochester NY, but wound up drafted in the Army. From Joe's personal collection comes this group of gag drawings, all done on 12-field 5-peghole animation paper. The gags reference Woolie's crew and the new Multi-Plane Camera (in the drawing, it's referred to as "The New Multi Cell Camera"), and a great Snow White "Mirror, Mirror" gag with a color pencil image of Joe. The drawings range from Very Good to Fine, with one containing an image of a wooden ice cream spoon left on the reverse side of the art (which was glued to another drawing in the collection).
