Description

Walt Disney's Lady and the Tramp Big Golden Book #427 Page 24 Illustration (Simon and Schuster, 1955). Poor Tramp is being taken away by the Dog Catcher as Jock and Trusty watch helplessly on this fantastic fully-painted page with text paste-up. It is produced in gouache on 9.75" x 13.25" illustration board. The page appeared as page 24 (counting the fly pages) in the Big Golden Book #427. The book's cover identifies it as one of the "Walt Disney's Library" series, and the title page states "Pictures by Walt Disney Studio, Adapted by Claude Coats". Claude Coates (1913 - 1992) was a premier studio background artist, and his work was seen in over 20 animated films. The last film he painted backgrounds for was Lady and the Tramp. After that film's release, he began working in Theme Parks and was a WED Imagineer until retirement. He was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1991. There are some staple holes in the top corners of the board from a previous framing, otherwise in Fine condition. Comes with a copy of the published book.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
