Virgil Ross - Bugs Bunny with Rocky and Mugsy Illustration (Warner Brothers, c. 1990s). "This guy knows too much, Mugsy. We'll take him for a ride" says diminutive mobster Rocky to his hulking, simpleton sidekick. Looks like Bugs is ready to fight back, in this terrific illustration. Rocky and Mugsy were featured in several Looney Tunes shorts directed by Friz Freleng, most notably Bugs and Thugs (1954). It's one of an enormous number of cartoons animated by Virgil Ross (1907 - 1996) during his long association with Warners; in addition to Freleng's unit, Ross worked with Tex Avery and Bob Clampett on many classic cartoons. He also contributed to many animated TV series from Hanna-Barbera (including The Flintstones) and Filmation (Archie, the animated version of Star Trek). Mr. Ross was known for his great action sequences and facial expressions. This piece was drawn by Mr. Ross in graphite and blue pencil on a sheet of 12 field animation paper, with image sizes of 6.5", 5.25", and 7". Signed along the lower edge."This guy knows too much, Mugsy. We'll take him for a ride" says diminutive mobster Rocky to his hulking, simpleton sidekick.
