Description

Virgil Ross - Bugs Bunny and Sheriff of Nottingham Drawing (Warner Brothers, c. 1990s). After taking a carrot from the King's garden, Bugs finds himself up against a dull-witted Sheriff of Nottingham, in this scene inspired by the 1949 Chuck Jones-directed cartoon, Rabbit Hood. This was the cartoon with the very funny scene of Bugs disguised as the King, "knighting" the Sheriff by hitting him on the head repeatedly ("Arise, Sir Loin of Beef!"). The art was created by master animator Virgil Ross. He worked on what is considered the first official Bugs Bunny cartoon, A Wild Hare (1940) during his many years at Warner Brothers, and was part of animation units headed by Tex Avery, Robert Clampett, and Friz Freleng. His limited edition "Master's Collection" cels were very popular, quickly selling out at Warner Bros. Studio Stores and animation galleries. This signed drawing by Virgil Ross is on 12 field animation paper, with a combined image area measuring approximately 10" x 8". Fine condition.
