Description

Virgil Ross - Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig Illustration (Warner Brothers, c. 1990s). Porky and his hunting dog are confounded by the sight of Bugs in a baby-blue tutu in this wild drawing by Virgil Ross (1907 - 1991). This scene was inspired by the 1943 Bob Clampett-directed Merrie Melodies short, A Corny Concerto which was a parody of Disney's Fantasia; this is from the "Tales from the Vienna Woods" segment. Mr. Ross was an animator on this cartoon; in addition to Clampett, he worked under Tex Avery and for many years as part of the Friz Freleng unit. Dance sequences were a specialty of Mr. Ross; he was also known for his lively action scenes and funny facial expressions. After his long association with Warners, Mr. Ross moved on to Hanna-Barbera and Filmation, plus freelance work for Walter Lantz and Walt Disney. This rare image of Bugs Bunny together with Porky Pig was drawn by Virgil Ross on a sheet of 12 field animation paper, with a combined image area of 11" x 9.5". Fine condition. Signed in the lower left.
