Virgil Ross - Bugs Bunny and Cecil Turtle Sequenced Pan Drawing Original Art (Warner Brothers, c. 1990s).Cecil Turtle mystifies Bugs during their race by constantly appearing ahead of him, in this original sequenced pan drawing inspired by the 1947 Friz Freleng-directed short, "Rabbit Transit," a sequel to both "Tortoise Beats Hare" (1941) and "Tortoise Wins by a Hare" (1943). All three provided the basis of the 1947 storybook-and-record album, Bugs Bunny & the Tortoise. The art is by a man who had worked on those cartoons, long-time WB animator Virgil Ross (1907-1996). Ross was famous for his action and dance sequences, as well as his funny facial expressions. Several of the cartoons he worked on were nominated for Academy Awards, and Ross himself was given the prestigious Winsor McCay Award in 1988. He spent time at several other studios, most notably Hanna-Barbera and Filmation. Ross began releasing hand-painted Limited Edition cels of his famous Looney Tunes scenes as part of the "Master's Collection" cels sold at Warner Bros. Studio Stores and animation galleries. This signed piece is drawn on animation paper measuring 24.75" x 9.5", with image sizes ranging from 2" to 6". Fine condition.
