Description

Virgil Ross - Bugs Bunny and Cecil Turtle Pan Drawing (Warner Brothers, c. 1990s). An astounded Bugs can't figure out why Cecil Turtle keeps getting ahead of him in Tex Avery's 1941 cartoon, Tortoise Beats Hare. What Bugs didn't know is Cecil's many cousins lent a helping hand! Virgil Ross was one of the animators on this classic short, which inspired this original drawing. Mr. Ross's career in animation included a long stay at Warner Brothers, where he first worked in Avery's unit. His specialties were highly animated movement (like dancing and, as seen here, running) as well as a knack for funny facial expressions; Bugs Bunny was the character he was most closely associated with. Mr. Ross received the two highest awards in his industry, the Motion Picture Screen Cartoonists Golden Award in 1984, and the Winsor McCay Award in 1988. This great signed drawing (with no less than four images of Bugs) is on animation paper measuring 24.25" x 10.5"; overall image area measures approximately 21.5" x 7". Very Good condition with minor edge wear.
