    V. T. Hamlin - Alley Oop WWII Squadron Insignia Illustration and Letter Group of 15 (1943). Look at that Cave Man go! An incredibly rare look at some of the behind-the-scenes efforts that leading day artists went to in order to support the war effort. This group contains a combination of original art and correspondence from V. T. Hamlin (1900-1993) regarding a request he received, to produce an Alley Oop squadron insignia. Included are an original hand-colored drawing, a traced imaged on yellow onionskin paper, and two hand-colored copies. All of these are by the hand of Hamlin as the correspondence makes clear. There are a couple of stat images of one of the colored copies. There is an original hand-written letter from Hamlin on his personal stationery, written in blue pencil. It was addressed to Lt. M. E. Lichte of the 16th Antisubmarine Squadron and there are two stat copies of it. Also included are three letters of a legal nature concerning copyright protection and giving the military permission to use the character in such a manner. One of these is signed by Herbert W. Walker, General Manager of the NEA newspaper syndicate at that time (and it addresses Vincent Hamlin as "Snick" Hamlin in the P.S.). These all come with the vintage envelope Hamlin sent to Lt. M.E. Lichte in 1943. All are tanned with handling issues. Some are in more brittle condition, however on average they are in Very Good condition.
