    Description

    USS Pipefish Insignia Design Preliminary Sketch by Hank Porter (Walt Disney, c. 1943). Walt Disney Studios created over 1500 insignias for units during World War II from 1940 to 1946. This is one of the many that Hank Porter, the head of the Disney Publicity Department (1936-1950) designed. The U.S.S. Pipefish was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named after the pipefish, a long, narrow fish discovered in Panama. It was launched on October 12, 1943 and received 6 battle stars. This art is rendered in graphite and blue pencil on tracing paper measuring 7" x 9". In Fine condition. Originally from the Hank Porter Estate.
