Description

Ub Iwerks Plane Crazy Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1929). If you're looking to add an early Mickey Mouse drawing to your collection, you can't get much better than this! Plane Crazy was the first Mickey Mouse short to ever be produced, co-directed by Ub Iwerks (1901 - 1971) and his longtime friend Walt Disney (1901 - 1966). It was released for a test screening on 5/15/1928 and was widely released with sound on 3/17/1929, following Mickey as he tried to build and fly his own plane. Animation drawings from this historic short are already hard to find, and a drawing like this with both Mickey and Minnie is truly something special. The 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing is rendered masterfully in graphite, capturing Mickey and Minnie at about 4:35 as they fly through the sky. It is attributed to Ub Iwerks, who allegedly animated the short in secret for six weeks straight with the help of Hugh Harmon and Rudolph Ising! This treasured piece of Disney and Iwerks lasting legacy is enormous with this timeless couple measuring about 11'' x 5.25''. The drawing is noted as 151 in the lower right with a 342 stamp on the back, rendered on professionally restored paper with a backing sheet. Good to Very Good condition with minor edge and handling wear and light age-related toning with a faint border.
