Tugboat Mickey Mickey Mouse Animation Drawings Sequence of 4 (Walt Disney, 1940). "Oh my gosh! A shipwreck! Ahoy! All hands on deck!" Dressed in a pea coat and peaked captain's hat (and featuring his new, updated character design), Mickey sounds the alarm - the steamship 'Gigantic' has run aground! Mickey is the captain of a tugboat, and Goofy and Donald make up what may well be the most inept pair of crewmen in maritime history. After managing to destroy the boat completely, the group learns that the announcement they'd heard was nothing more than a realistic radio drama - much like Orson Wells' ill-fated "War of the Worlds" broadcast on Halloween, 1938. The short was released on April 26, 1940 and was directed by Clyde Geronimi. This sequence is a beautiful full-body depiction of Mickey that can be seen near the 2:18 point in the film. With a worried look on his face, he stands on the ship's railing and rings the alarm bell furiously, to alert his crew to the trouble. Rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole paper, the drawings include effects animation ("motion-blur" on the bell clapper) and notes for the Ink & Paint Department. Very light handling/creasing (image unaffected). In Very Good condition.
