Tugboat Mickey Goofy Animation Drawings Sequence of 6 (Walt Disney, 1940).
"Oh my gosh! A shipwreck! Ahoy! All hands on deck!" Mickey sounds the alarm - the steamship 'Gigantic' has run aground in this Clyde Geronimi-directed short, released on 4/26/40. Mickey is the captain of a tugboat, and Goofy and Donald make up what may well be the most inept pair of crewmen in maritime history. After managing to destroy the boat completely, the group learns that the announcement they'd heard was nothing more than a realistic radio drama - much like Orson Wells' ill-fated War of the Worlds. This sequence of six drawings features a terrific full-body depiction of Goofy which can be seen around the 2:52 mark in the film as Goofy shovels coal into the ship's engine furnace. Rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field 5-peghole paper, the drawings include effects animation (coal on the shovel and the furnace door) and notes to the Ink & Paint Department. Each piece is numbered as 1, 9, 22, 26, C22, and 8. Light handling and age-related toning. In Very Good condition.
