Trader Mickey Sequence of 3 Mickey Mouse Production Drawings (Walt Disney, 1932). Mickey finds himself in a harrowing predicament, dangling from the tip of a cannibal's spear in this dramatic sequence of three original production drawings from Trader Mickey (1932), a black-and-white theatrical short directed by David Hand. While transporting a shipload of musical instruments along the African coast, Mickey and Pluto are captured by cannibals, who plan to cook them for dinner. Quick-thinking Mickey trades his instruments for freedom, turning the tense situation into a wild, energetic jam session set to The Darktown Strutters' Ball. This short is known for its stereotypical depictions of Native Africans, including exaggerated cannibalistic caricatures, nose piercings, and bones in their heads-imagery that modern audiences may find offensive. The film was released as part of the Walt Disney Treasures DVD series Mickey Mouse in Black and White, Volume 2. These expressive full-body images of a captured Mickey, seen near the 2:05 timestamp, were illustrated in graphite on 12-field, 2-peghole animation paper, numbered 23, 44, and 45. Animated by David Hand, Les Clark, Norm Ferguson, and Ben Sharpsteen, this sequence showcases fluid rubber-hose animation.
