    Description

Tom and Jerry Layout/Publicity Drawing by Dick Bickenbach (MGM, c. 1950s). Legendary Hanna-Barbera character designer Dick Bickenbach began working with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera at MGM in 1947, after beginning his animation career at Warner Brothers. He worked with Bill and Joe until 1957, when MGM closed its animation studio; he then followed them to the new Hanna-Barbera Studios. This is a stylish Dick Bickenbach original layout/publicity drawing of Tom, using Jerry as bait. A similar pose can be seen in the 1947 short Cat Fishing, but with Tom in his earlier design; this is clearly a 1950s look for the character. Nice images of 2" and 3". Graphite on 12 field 3-peghole animation paper. Minor handling wear. In Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
