DescriptionToby Tortoise Returns Toby and Max Animation Drawings Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1936).
Toby Tortoise Returns is a Silly Symphony cartoon starring Max Hare and Toby Tortoise, and the sequel to The Tortoise and the Hare. In Toby Tortoise Returns Max Hare is boxing Toby Tortoise, and beating him severely in round one. Between rounds, a Mae West look-alike tells Toby she "likes a man who takes his time", which seems to reinvigorate him. Come round two, Toby pulls into his shell to avoid the fists, wears a diving helmet to survive the water Max pours in, and when Max fills his shell with fireworks, manages to turn them back against Max. In this pair of vintage 12 field 5-peghole animation drawings, Max and Toby square off in the ring. Wilfred Jackson directed this sequel to The Tortoise and the Hare, which was released on 8/22/36. Both character drawings are full figure in graphite and red pencil. Toby measures 6.5" x 3.75" and noted as 22 in the lower right corner. This piece also contains timing notations on the right side of the artwork. Max measures 5" x 6" and is noted as 6 in the lower right. Minor age-related toning and edge wear. Very Good condition.
