Thru The Mirror Mickey Mouse Animation Drawings Sequence of 3 (Walt Disney, 1936). "Call out the cards!" The King of Hearts (a caricature of Charles Laughton) has just been bested by Mickey in a fencing duel - this, after Mickey had been shimmying with the Queen (Greta Garbo). Mickey has been reading Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass before bed - and dreams that he wakes up in a world of opposites. Among the many inanimate objects that come to life are a radio, a telephone, and a deck of cards! Eventually, Mickey ends up in trouble with the King of Hearts (after inadvertently insulting him by dancing closely with the Queen), and a battle royal begins. The film was directed by David Hand and was released on May 30, 1936. Disney Legend Joe Grant contributed to the story. This well-known short remains so popular that it is regularly referenced in video games, television programs, and at the Disney theme parks. This wonderful sequence of three animation drawings can be seen near the 7:31 point in the film, during the climactic battle between Mickey and the cards. Mickey has managed to escape the cards and so they resort to throwing their "suits" at him - the clubs, hearts, spades, etc... Mickey is rendered in graphite, while the weaponized suits are drawn in red and black colored pencil. He is being pelted relentlessly and trying to block his face as he beats a hasty retreat. Large full-body drawings of Mickey with added effects animation make this sequence of drawings something of a rarity. All are drawn on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Minor creasing/handling and some toning throughout. Drawings are in Good condition.
