Three Caballeros Jose Carioca Pair of 2 Animation Drawings (Walt Disney, 1944)."Donald, take it easy, eh?" The Brazilian parrot Jose Carioca makes his second appearance in a Disney feature in The Three Caballeros. Not only was this the second Disney "package feature," it was also the first sequel to a Disney animated film. The Three Caballeros premiered in Mexico City for Christmas 1944, and was officially released in the US on February 3, 1945. It concerns the adventures of Donald, Jose, and Panchito (a Mexican rooster) as they travel through Latin America. The film was the second of Disney's two Latin-themed features (after Saludos Amigos) made as a part of the US Government's "Good Neighbor Policy," intended to convince Central and South American countries to side with the Allies during World War II. Jose is a debonair, cheerful parrot native of Rio de Janeiro. Well-dressed, and always with a cigar and an umbrella, he is a good friend of Donald Duck, and enjoys playing both the part of host and tourist equally. To this day, he is exceptionally popular in Brazil, and is regularly featured in merchandise and comics. He made appearances in several theatrical features and television shows over the years, and is also a "meetable" character at the Disney theme parks. These are two beautiful rough animation drawings of the suave Jose, with his requisite straw hat and cigar. Rough animation drawings are highly-desirable by collectors, as they come directly from the hand of the animators, and have all of the spontaneity and dynamism of gesture drawing or sketching. Both drawings depict the character in lively full-body poses (there was rarely a time when Jose was not singing or dancing). He is rendered in graphite and colored pencil and measures roughly 5" tall in each. Drawings are made on 12 field 5-peghole paper. They have been framed under Plexiglass in a 27 x 12.5 frame. Frame is sold as-is. Drawings have minimal handling wear. Both are in Very Good condition.
