Three Blind Mouseketeers Group of 3 Animation Drawings (Walt Disney, 1936). "All for one, one for all!" Three great characters, three great animation drawings! This Silly Symphony was released a little over a year before Snow White. The studio had been focusing all its efforts on perfecting the art and craft of animation - and it really shows here in this short. The film is chock-full of lavishly-detailed backgrounds, gorgeous effects animation, and - as always - strong storytelling. A clever retelling of Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers combined with the well-known nursery rhyme, "Three Blind Mice," the story pits three surprisingly competent "guard-mice" against a menacing cat, Captain Kitt. The film was released on September 26, 1936 and was co-directed by Dave Hand and Jack Cutting. Longtime Disney actors Pinto Colvig and Billy Bletcher provided the voices for the characters. The first two drawings can be seen in the opening shot, 25 seconds into the film, as the Mouseketeers, still safely inside their hole, sing their theme song (with a lighted candle in the foreground!) The third drawing can be seen at the 2:29 point in the film, as the shortest of the three, cheerfully makes ready to venture out in search of food for the evening. He will just narrowly miss a battle ax which has been rigged to a swinging pendulum near the entrance to their hideout. These drawings are somewhat unusual in that they not only all include full-body images of the characters, but they also depict multiple characters together on the same drawing. (Disney would often portray multiple characters each on separate cels, even if they appeared in the same shot.) All three drawings are rendered on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Characters are drawn primarily in graphite, with shadows and accents in colored pencil. Minor handling and toning. All are in Very Good condition.Auction Info
