DescriptionThe Steeple Chase Mickey Mouse Animation Drawings Sequence of 3 (Walt Disney, 1933). In this short, jockey Mickey is ready to ride Thunderbolt when the horse discovers a jug of booze hidden in the hay and drinks the contents; Mickey then enlists the help of two stable boys who put on a horse costume, taking Thunderbolt's place in the big race. Though that might seem highly improbable in real life, cartoon logic says anything can happen! Here's a rare sequence of three original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawings from this short, which most sources list Burt Gillett as director; it came out on 9/30/33. The sequence begins at the 5:33 mark, when a swarm of hornets help propel Mickey and the "horse" over a fence, knocking them over in the process. Drawings are numbered 39 (image size 7.5" x 6.5"), #40 (8.5" x 6.5"), and #42 (9" x 6.5", with added animator's notes). Art is in graphite with a few red pencil highlights. There is mild to moderate paper toning, with handling and edge wear. Good to Very Good condition.
