Description

The Reluctant Dragon Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1941). The Reluctant Dragon was the first of Disney's "Anthology" features, incorporating a live action tour of the studio (featuring Robert Benchley) with animation; cartoon segments included "Casey Junior" (from Dumbo), "Baby Weems," "How To Ride a Horse" (starring Goofy), and the title story, based on the book by Kenneth Grahame. This beautiful concept watercolor/gouache painting is for the "Reluctant Dragon" segment, featuring a lovely view of the castle, surrounding town, and countryside. An exact painting like this one is seen in the closing moments of the film, only shown as a night scene. The film credits list Arthur Riley and Ray Huffine in charge of background art. The painting is matted and framed with glass, with an image area of 14.75" x 11.5", and an overall framed size of 22.5" x 19". In Fine condition; an amazing piece of art in its own right.
