Description

The Practical Pig Big Bad Wolf Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1939). Wearing a "hayseed" mask disguise that would make even Mortimer Snerd jealous, the Big Bad Wolf is once again trying to get the better of the ever-diligent (and ever-vigilant) Practical Pig. This cartoon was the fourth and final to star the Three Little Pigs, as well as the next-to-last Silly Symphonies short ever produced. The film was actually billed as a "Three Little Pigs" cartoon, suggesting that there were imminent plans to give the porcine trio their own series. The rousingly popular "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?" was once again featured in this cartoon - as it had been in all the Pigs' earlier entries. Fifer and Fiddler Pig both ignore their brother's warnings one day - and decide to go swimming in the local pond, even though the Big Bad Wolf is known to be lurking close by. Of course, they are captured, by the aforementioned wolf. Practical Pig has been at home, working on his new invention, a lie detecting machine. Playing "messenger boy", the wolf delivers a desperate-sounding letter (allegedly from Fifer and Fiddler), to Practical's house - in the hopes of luring the pig outside. This drawing can be seen at the 4:35 point in the film, as the wolf calls out "Are you coming with me?" in a singsong falsetto. This large full-body image of the wolf measures roughly 6" x 5" on 12 field 5-peghole paper. Rendered in graphite and colored pencil, he holds open his bag, expecting to catch Practical pig. Dressed in his messenger boy uniform, and ridiculous facemask, the Big Bad Wolf appears much more comical than threatening - as was usually the case with his never-ending series of ridiculous disguises. The drawing has some toning throughout as well as light creasing. It is in Good condition.
