The Opry House Mickey Mouse Animation Drawing Original Art (Walt Disney, 1929). This cartoon, Mickey Mouse's fifth theatrical short, was co-directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Ub Iwerks did almost all the animation, while Walt Disney once again provided Mickey's voice (he only whistles in this early short). It came out on 3/28/29, and was the second Mickey cartoon released in that year. In this short, Mickey is the owner of a small theater/opera house. This is an original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing from the opening scene, when Mickey is dancing and marching with a broom to the music of "Yankee Doodle Dandy." There is a poster on the theater with Minnie Mouse on it and it reads "Yankee Doodle Girls." You can see this image of Mickey around the :50 second mark. Art is in graphite, with a 5" image; the number 333 is written in the lower right corner. This very early and very rare animation drawing of the early days of Mickey Mouse is matted with an opening of 12" x 10", framed using Plexiglas for an overall size of 18" x 15.5". A screen grab of this scene is included. Frame is sold as-is; artwork has minor handling and edge wear, with a pinhole and fold creases. Image remains in Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
