The Old Mill Layout Drawing by Joshua Meador (Walt Disney, 1937). This cartoon won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short. It was selected as #14 on Jerry Beck's 50 Greatest Cartoons list, and in 2015, it was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry. This was the Silly Symphony short that introduced the use of the multi-plane camera and was a sort of testing ground for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It was directed by Wilfred Jackson and was released on 11/5/37. This is a rare layout drawing of the Old Mill. You can see a similar scene to this during the storm, around the 6:15 mark. Detailed graphite image on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper, hand-signed by Joshua Meador (1911 - 1965) in the lower right. He animated on this film and went on to become a leading special effects man at the studio. He even was responsible in later years for animating the "Monsters from the Id" sequences in the classic science-fiction movie Forbidden Planet. An amazing image, with a size of 9". Minor handling wear, bottom edge wear, and pinholes in corners. In Good condition.
