Description

The Nutcracker Rare Uncompleted Cartoon Animation Drawings Group of 3 (Harman-Ising/MGM, 1934). Here's a rare group of original 12 field animation drawings with an interesting back story. The animation team of Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising had worked on Alice Comedies (in Kansas City) and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shorts (in California) for Walt Disney during the silent days, and then in 1930 they moved to Warner Brothers' fledgling animation studio, where they worked on Bosko cartoons. Wanting bigger budgets than Looney Tunes boss man Leon Schlesinger would approve, the pair left and formed their own studio. After producing two Cubby Bear shorts for Van Beuren, Hugh and Rudy went to MGM in 1934. Their dream of producing big-budget two-reel cartoons seemed to be finally within their grasp, and they began work on their most ambitious project to date, The Nutcracker. Here's a very rare group of three drawings from the failed production that stalled out. MGM dragged their feet on offering a contract to the guys, eventually causing production to stop after an estimated thousand feet of film had been completed. These drawings are of a little wooden man with a top hat. One has a large graphite with red pencil image size of 4.5" x 4.25", while the other two have smaller images of the little nutcracker. One is in graphite over blue pencil, with a profile image that measures 1" x 2", while the other is in graphite over red pencil, with an image size of 1.25" x 1.75". The drawings are in Good condition with edge chips an tears, plus a few slight stains that do not affect the images.
