The New Car Flip the Frog Animation Drawings Group of 13 (Ub Iwerks/Celebrity Pictures, 1931).
Flip buys a used car with very human characteristics in this short, directed and animated by Ub Iwerks (1901 - 1971). Ub, of course, was the former animator for Walt Disney credited with designing Walt's first two animated stars, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse. In 1930, he opened his own studio with the Flip the Frog series, distributed by MGM. The Flip cartoons were all "Pre-Code" and regularly featured risqué and adult situations. In this rare sequence of drawings, a very inebriated pig in a tuxedo wanders up to the service station as Flip's car is "drinking" from a pail of water; the pig stumbles around and drops his bottle into the water, which the car eagerly gulps down -- you can guess the rest! Here is our porcine party animal as he wanders up, twirls around, pulls out his bottle, and takes a swig. The sequence begins at the 5:29 mark as seen on YouTube. The art is in graphite with added red pencil highlights on several; four drawing have sequence numbers in the lower right while others are animator's roughs (very likely drawn by Ub himself). Paper shows some minor toning, with handling and edge wear, and a few minor stains; overall condition is Good.
