DescriptionThe Mail Pilot Mickey Mouse Animation Drawings Sequence of 6 (Walt Disney, 1933). The bravery and tenacity of Mickey Mouse is on full display in this popular early short, directed by David Hand, and released on 5/13/33. It stars Mickey as an air pilot who must get a valuable package delivered. Inspiration for the film might have come from the 1932 John Ford-directed feature film Air Mail, starring Pat O'Brien. Like that live-action film, Mickey must brave the wind, rain, and snow, and a steep mountain range; added to the mix is evil air pirate Pete, who attacks our hero with a machine gun and a harpoon cannon. Here's a rare sequence of six original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawings of Mail Pilot Mickey as he flies over mountains with his snow-covered propeller-driven airplane. The sequence begins at the 3:17 mark, and continues through to the 3:34 mark. Drawings are in graphite, several with added color pencil highlights and/or lightly sketched-in mountain peaks, and are numbered 29 (image size 5" x 1.5"); #60 (image 3.75" x 2.5"); #100 (image 5" x 3.25"); #136 (image 4.25" x 3.75"); #150 (2.5" x 3" with added puffs of smoke from the plane's exhaust); and #153 (3" x 1.5" with added smoke). The paper has some toning, along with handling wear, small edge tears, and reinforced pegholes. Overall condition is Good.
