Description
The Mad Doctor Mickey Mouse and Pluto Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1933). "Pluto!" Mickey's scary nightmare is over as banished (to his doghouse) Pluto comes rushing in through the bedroom window in this group of three original 12 field 2-peghole animation drawings. This Dave Hand-directed short was released on January 20, 1933, with unusual horror overtones that may have been intended as a spoof on the genre and Universal's classic films. Despite featuring some incredibly complex animation sequences, this short was never reissued due to its perceived scariness and reports claim some theaters refused to screen it at all! This happy reunion takes place at about the 6:36 timestamp as Mickey calls out to his pet - that outline next to Mickey is his shadow on the bed, cast from the morning light. This first drawing is in graphite and red pencil, noted as 8 in the lower right corner with an approximate image size of 3.75" x 2.5". The next drawing, noted as 87, is of Pluto hopping through the open window in a graphite image measuring 1.75" x 2.5"; this image fits the action on a 2-peghole sheet but doesn't quite match what we've seen online and might be a deleted drawing or from another short. The final drawing, numbered 120, brings the two together in a graphite and red pencil image measuring 5.5" x 3.75". That chain attached to Pluto has his doghouse on the other end - and it comes in with the pooch! You can find this one at about the 6:41 mark near the end of the cartoon. The drawings are in Good to Very Good condition with minor handling wear and some age-related paper toning.More information about Walt Disney Studios - Fab Five.
