Description

The Little Mermaid Original Ariel Production Drawings Attributed to Jorgen Klubien Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1989). Here's a trio of Ariel production drawings from Walt Disney's 28th animated feature film The Little Mermaid. Ariel was designed by Glen Keane and voiced by Jodi Benson. In the film Ariel gives her voice away for the chance to marrying Prince Eric. These tie-down drawings are attributed to Jorgen Klubien, Disney's renowned character designer and storyboard artist. He is best known for his work on the Disney films The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), A Bug's Life (1998), Cars (2006) and the cult-classic Frankenweenie (2012). Klubien worked as a character animator on The Little Mermaid. These tie-down drawings were rendered in graphite over blue and red pencil on animation paper. One piece is a 12 field sheet and two are 16 field sheets. Tie-down drawings or clean-up drawings as they are also called, are part of the workflow in the production of hand-drawn animation. Tiedowns are generally done on a new sheet of paper. However, they can be done on the same sheet as the rough animation if the rough was done with a "non-copy " pencil usually red or blue. Noted as 102, 267, and 67 in the bottom right. All three pieces contain the animator's timing notation in the upper right. These are nice large images of 8" x 6", 10" x 8", and 10" x 7". All three are perfectly positioned on the page. Presented in Very Good condition with edge wear and mild corner damage.
