Description

The Little Lion Hunter Inki Animation Drawing (Warner Brothers, 1939). Here is a historical relic from the early directorial career of the legendary Chuck Jones, an original animation drawing featuring a lesser known character from a less culturally sensitive era of cartoons, Inki. A very rare piece, this moment can be seen at the 2:47 mark of the very first Merry Melodies cartoon to feature the character, 1939's The Little Lion Hunter. Inki appeared in only five cartoons made between 1939 and 1950, and the series ended when Warner Brothers dropped the use of racist caricatures at the end of the 1940s. This obscure piece of cartoon history is rendered in graphite with red, brown and yellow pencil, and it contains production notes including the number 73 in the lower right corner. Inki measures 3.5" x 4.5", and the drawing is on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper that shows handling and edge wear with some tearing on the sides. The drawing is mounted on a white sheet of bond paper measuring 14" x 10.5". The paper shows toning due to age, but overall the condition the artwork is Very Good.
