Description

The Jetsons Flying Car Opening Segment Animation Drawings Group of 2 (Hanna-Barbera, 1962). "Meet George Jetson..." What cartoon fan doesn't know the words and hummable tune to this classic Hanna-Barbera prime-time series? Although the original run of the series was only one 24-episode season, the show took on a life of its own with endless reruns, which led to a series revival in 1985. Here are two original animation drawings from the beginning of the opening, when we first see George Jetson's flying car zoom by, turn, and then head off. The first drawing shows the car as it starts to turn; this is from the largest view of the car, with a glimpse of the family inside. Oddly enough, this scene was redone, switching Jane and Elroy's positions, but otherwise this is the same image as seen in the opening. This drawing, noted as 25 in the lower right corner, is in graphite with a red pencil line dividing the car's lower section (light brown in the film) from the darker-colored upper. Image size is approximately 7.25" x 3". The second drawing is seen as the series title is shown, as the flying car (with all four family members) slightly recedes before zooming back for a closer view. The car is in graphite, while the family is drawn in graphite over red. Image size is 3.25" x 1.25", with the number 57 in the lower right. Condition is Good to Very Good, with some handling wear and mild age-related paper toning.
From the Johnny Hart Collection.
