Description

The Dognapper Mickey Mouse and Saw Blade Animation Drawing Group of 4 (Walt Disney, 1934). "Haha, your game's up, Pete!" Notorious dog kidnapper Pete is backed into a corner, making things worse for everyone when he releases a gigantic circular saw through the mill. The group of four 12 field 2-peghole animation drawings in this lot capture Mickey's reaction in the David Hand-directed short, which premiered in theaters on 11/17/1934. The cartoon featured Mickey and Donald as police officers who tried to catch Pete and rescue Minnie's pup Fifi and was one of the only times Mickey's lines were voiced by Donald's voice actor Clarence Nash. The two follow Pete into a sawmill where shenanigans ensue, including all three of them trying to escape the runaway saw. The lot includes a sequence of three full figure animation drawings of Mickey in full figure with his police hat and badge, found at about the 6:03-04 time as Mickey jumps high to avoid the saw blade; image sizes are approximately 2.25" x 3.5" for drawing #21; 2.75" x 3.5" for drawing #23; and 3.25" x 3" for drawing #29. The sawblade on drawing #131 appears multiple times; the image seen at about the 6:07 mark is pretty close to the drawing. The art is in graphite and red pencil with a small green pencil highlight to the saw blade. The condition is Good to Very Good with some handling and edge wear, with a couple of edge tears on the saw drawing and some age-related paper toning on #131, light toning on the other pages.
