The Country Cousin Monte Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1936). Sophisticated cousin to country bumpkin Abner, Monte Mouse looks elegant in his top hat and tails in this original animation/color model drawing. The Country Cousin won the Academy Award as Best Animated Short in 1936. This Silly Symphony was directed by Wilfred Jackson, with principal animation done by Art Babbitt and Les Clark. The 4" x 6.5" image is rendered in graphite with red and green pencil on 12 field paper and numbered 33 in the lower right corner. The drawing also features handwritten inker's notes and a studio stamp indicating that it is a model drawing to be returned to Dot Powers. Ms. Powers was supervisor of the Ink and Paint Department, and she selected this drawing as representative of Monte in the scene and right for use as a model.
