DescriptionThe Country Cousin Abner Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1936).
The Country Cousin was a Silly Symphony short that tells the story of a mouse from "Podunk" coming to visit his cousin in the city. The opening shot is of Abner, staring up at the city skyscrapers, with the sign directing him to Podunk facing the opposite way. He receives a telegram from his cousin, Monty, telling him to "Stop being a hick" and come live with him in the city. The Country Cousin won the Academy Award as Best Animated Short in 1936. The short was directed by Wilfred Jackson, with principal animation done by Art Babbitt and Les Clark. This is a fantastic vintage drawing of Abner landing on top of Monte after the two fall from a dining room table. You will see this image around the 7:16 mark. The 4" x 6.5" image is rendered in graphite with red and green pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper and numbered 34 in the lower right corner. Mild age-related toning. Condition is Very Good.
