"The Art of Tom McKimson" Children's Book Character Concept Drawings Group of 4 (Warner Brothers, 1928). Like his brother, legendary Warner Brothers cartoon director Robert, Tom McKimson (1907 - 1998) began his career in animation in the late 1920s working at Walt Disney Studios. From there he went to Romer Studios (owned by the son of Zane Gray) and eventually ended up as an animator/layout artist at Warner Brothers from 1939 to 1947. He worked in both the Bob Clampett and Art Davis units. He ultimately became art director at Whitman Publishing, working primarily on Dell Comics featuring Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner. This lot is the earliest known artwork from the hand of Tom McKimson. It's a series of four original ink drawings created for a children's book that was to be called Mouse Tales. It was illustrated by Tom and his brother Robert, and written by their mother, Mildred Porter McKimson. The drawings feature a 12" x 8" Grandma Mouse, a 9" x 11 Bobby Mouse, a 9" x 11" Scarecrow on a donkey, and a 9.5" x 14" image of two wolves. Each drawing is signed on the bottom border and dated 1928. All come with a letter from the Robert McKimson Estate. Minor handling and edge wear. Overall condition is Good. From the Robert McKimson Archives.
