    Description

"The Art of Robert McKimson" Children's Book Character Concept Drawings (Warner Brothers, 1928). Robert McKimson (1910 - 1977) was one of the great directors of Warner Brothers cartoons and is the man behind such characters like Foghorn Leghorn, Speedy Gonzales, and the Tasmanian Devil. He also helped refine the look of Bugs Bunny in the short The Tortoise Wins By a Hare. He got his start at Walt Disney Studios and then moved on to Romer Studios, a small studio owned by the son of writer Zane Grey. After that, he joined Warner Brothers and became a main animator for Bob Clampett's unit and eventually became a director in 1944. This lot is a piece of animation history. It is the earliest original artwork known to exist from the hand of Robert McKimson. It is a series of original ink drawings done for a children's book titled Mouse Tales which was to be illustrated by him and his brother Tom, with their mother Mildred Porter McKimson writing the story. The lot includes original drawings of an 8.5" x 11" Bobby Mouse, a 9" x 11" Ladder and the Bale of Hay, and 7.5" x 6" Ugly Rain Cloud. Each one is signed Robert McKimson and dated 1928. The Bale of Hay has both Robert and Tom's name on the bottom. The artwork comes directly from the Robert McKimson Estate, and comes a Letter of Authenticity. Minor handling and edge wear. Condition overall is Good. From the Robert McKimson Archives.
