Swing Shift Cinderella Red Hot Animation Drawing Sequence of 5 (MGM, 1945). "You're not rugged it's true, but when I look at you I'm so.. oh Wolfie!" Tex Avery's dazzling dreamgirl Red Hot makes a dulcet appearance across this sequence of 5 original animation drawings from her memorable MGM short Swing Shift Cinderella. This Avery-directed short debuted as Red's fifth film on August 25, 1945, spoofing the titular fairy tale to splendid effect. Fan-favorite Red's animation was primarily handled by Preston Blair (1908 - 1995) who is known for his contributions to Disney features including Fantasia's (1940) "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Dance of the Hours" segments and his subsequent work in Avery's MGM unit, as well as for authoring several How-To books on cartoon animation. Singing sweetly to Wolfy after briefly taking his paw, this sultry sequence can be spotted beginning near the 5:23 timestamp when viewed online. Red has been rendered in graphite with some colored pencil to three-quarters figures averaging 7" x 8" nicely centered on the 12 field sheets which bear individual frame numbers between 602 - 612 in the lower right. All but drawing 602 (which appears to be a rough with double-punched pegholes) bear a studio stamp along the peghole edge reading Prod 128 Sc 41 with color callouts, timing charts, and animator's notes also present throughout. With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning, small spots of paint debris, superficial surface wrinkles, and minor corner tearing, overall melodic sequence is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
